The Deputy Minister of Culture Dr. Todor Chobanov opened on April 26 at “Sredets” Gallery of the Ministry of Culture an International Exhibition within the Forum “Restoration – 2010”. Foreign participation includes projects from Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary and Brazil.
“As you know, the Ministry of Culture is a partner of this unique project, together with the Association of Restorers in Bulgaria and the section “Restoration” of the Union of Bulgarian Artists”, said Deputy Minister Dr. Todor Chobanov at the opening of the exhibition. “During the next week everyone will be able to “touch” the hidden aspects of the responsible work of conservators, to unveil secrets which they possess to save different artifacts, found in our land”, explained Dr. Chobanov. Recently, on April 18, the world marked the International Day of Heritage. Not accidentally every year on this date the conservators have their professional holiday. Helping them, the Ministry of Culture has always striven to meet the most pressing needs of conservation and restoration of valuable cultural heritage objects, for they remain preserved for future generations. “I hope that through this exhibition, as well as the discussion session, also part of the Forum, which will be held on May 27 at the Ministry of Culture, conservators will be able to address not only issues of professional nature, but also the curiosity of non-specialists, revealing their new and unexpected facts of our rich past. Good luck to the Forum "Restoration" - 2010!", said Dr. Chobanov at the end of his opening speech. Restoration of a wedding dress of the early 20th century is one of the Bulgarian projects presented in the exhibition. What makes an interesting exhibition is that there are different types of objects. The exhibition includes a collection of boards, representing some 40 restoration projects and studies in restoration problems. The projects are in the conservation of movable and immovable cultural heritage of different areas: painting, mural painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, photography and more. The range of topics is wide: research and practical implementations, ethical issues, legal issues and more. On display are the original mural fragments, restored in the Department of Conservation of the National Art Academy. The exhibition at “Sredets” Gallery of the Ministry of Culture will continue until May 2, 2010.
