The Representative List with elements of intangible cultural heritage in Bulgaria is being prepared since 2008 and carried out through the National Campaign “Living Human Treasures”, which is organized bi-annually and has had four editions so far – in 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014. Based on the Inventory of the intangible cultural heritage in Bulgaria, the selection for the Representative List takes place in two stages – a regional and a national one. The regional one comprises an overview of nominations for elements of the intangible cultural heritage that had been submitted in each of the 28 districts in the country and a selection of one regional nomination for participation at the national level. The regional selections are carried out with the wide participation of the communities and bearers of the intangible cultural heritage in the respective districts. From the nominations that reach the national stage, five are selected for inscription in the National Representative List in the respective year. This permits the periodic complementing and updating of the National Representative List, testifying also about the active participation of the communities and bearers in practices of safeguarding and popularization of the intangible cultural heritage in the country.
А new updating of the Representative List with elements of intangible cultural heritage in Bulgaria is going to take place next year, in 2016.
