MINISTER OF CULTURE
He was born on the 26th of May, 1971 in Sofia. From 1978 he studied at the 7th High School ‘Sveti Sedmochislenitsi’, which he graduated from in 1989.
Boil Banov graduated in ‘Drama Theater Directing’ from the ‘Krastyo Sarafov’ National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, where he earned a Master’s degree in 1999. He also studied at the Sofia University ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’ – specialty ‘Cultural Studies’.
He has directed productions in various theaters in the country – the ‘Ivan Vazov’ National Theater, the ‘Salza i Smiah’ Theater, the Satirical Theater, the ‘Ivan Dimov’ Drama and Puppet Theater – Haskovo, etc. Among his most famous productions are: ‘At the Foot of the Vitosha Mountain’ and ‘When Thunder Strikes’ by P. K. Yavorov, ‘Vampire’ by Ŕ. Strashimirov, ‘The Suede Jacket’ by Stanislav Stratiev, ‘Five Women Wearing the Same Dress’ by Alan Ball.
For 15 years Boil Banov had been the Director of the ‘Ivan Dimov’ Drama and Puppet Theater – Haskovo.
In order to support himself while he studied at the ‘Krastyo Sarafov’ National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, he worked as a stagehand on the construction of stage sets in ‘Salza i Smiah’ Drama Theater.
He is fluent in English and Russian.
He is a chess player in the Ivis+ Chess Club in Sofia and participates in chess tournaments.
He was appointed Deputy Minister of Culture in the caretaker government on the 14th of August, 2014.
On 11 November 2014 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Culture in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
He was appointed Minister of Culture on the 4th of May, 2017.
