The Minister of Culture Prof. Velislav Minekov received today H.E. Dr. Hussein Husseinov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Sofia.

The two discussed the traditionally good relations between our countries and stressed the importance of mutual partnership in the field of culture, which plays an extremely important role for all other sectors. The Head of the Cabinet of the Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boris Danailov and the Head of the International Activities Department Dr. Petar Miladinov attended the meeting.

During the conversation, a review of the bilateral cooperation was made, and a positive assessment was given of the development of the relations in the field of culture between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The prospects for their activation were emphasized.

Minister Minekov expressed his regret that in the Program for Cooperation in the Field of Culture signed in 2019 between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Azerbaijan with a validity period until 2023, there are wonderful specific initiatives which have not yet been implemented. He stressed that he expects the cooperation between our countries to be put in effect in the future, with specific results and successful forms of interaction, establishing an appropriate form of monitoring, as well as more frequent meetings for work on the program, so that there are no more such delays. “It is completely realistic to implement all the proposals set in it within the term of the program,” stressed Minister Minekov. Through H.E. Husseinov, he invited the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan to visit our country at a time convenient for him. He shared that there are concrete and easily feasible proposals for cultural cooperation, such as exchange of museum collections of our historical museums, in order to get to know our peoples better, exchange of performances in the field of puppet theater, presentation of the philharmonic ensembles of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan, exchange of exhibitions from the collections of national galleries. H.E. Husseinov expressed satisfaction with the ideas shared, adding that the only obstacle to the preparation could be the Covid-19 pandemic. He also proposed a draft Memorandum of understanding between our countries for cooperation in various fields of culture. Minister Minekov confirmed the readiness of the Bulgarian side to work on a similar document, which we have a proposal to develop with Albania, which he recently visited. He added a proposal for the exchange of students between our countries, which would greatly contribute to academic development in our countries.

During the conversation with Ambassador Husseinov, Minister Minekov also expressed the readiness of our country to support Azerbaijan-s proposals for inclusion in the world lists of tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

On his part, H.E. Dr. Hussein Husseinov pointed out that more than a hundred different documents have been signed between our countries and stressed that the good foundation for more active cooperation between our countries is laid with the new leadership of both our and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture, as well as by Ambassador Husseinov. He also expressed readiness for more active work with the UNESCO Regional Center in Bulgaria. He added that the Republic of Azerbaijan has always supported our country and its candidacies to UNESCO and this support is on a reciprocal basis. H.E. Husseinov said that his mission is to bring Azerbaijan closer to Bulgaria for ordinary people, and vice versa. According to him, next year is important because it is 30 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. This, according to him, is a wonderful occasion to intensify our contacts in the field of culture.

At the end of the conversation, Minister Minekov assured the guest that Azerbaijan has a reliable partner in the face of the team of the Ministry of Culture and expressed his conviction that the bilateral dialogue in the field of culture should continue even more actively.
