So far, all the films of the directorial duo Mina Mileva and Vessela Kazakova have been in the official selection in Warsaw.
The Bulgarian film (co-production of Bulgaria and France) “Women Do Cry”, which made its world premiere at the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, was chosen to close the 37th Warsaw International Film Festival. This will happen on October 17 at 20:00. The festival in the capital of Poland is category “A”, which makes it especially important for Eastern Europe and the Asian market. It starts on October 8.
All films of the director duo Mina Mileva and Vessela Kazakova have been in the official selection in Warsaw so far. Their first film – “Uncle Tony, Three Fools and the Secret Service”, was shown in the documentary competition, and in our country caused a heated controversy. Their feature debut – “Cat in the Wall”, received the award of international critics “FIPRESCI” in 2019, which sent him to the European Film Awards.
The progressive recognition of the work of Mina Mileva and Vessela Kazakova over the years has led to this extremely important event, namely – their latest film to close the festival in Warsaw. The two authors share that it is a great honor for them, as so far they have not had an opening or closing film at this festival, which is so important for our region.
Founded in 1985, the Warsaw Film Festival joined in 2009 the elite group of events recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations (www.fiapf.org) as international film festivals and ranked among the festivals in Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, Tokyo, Moscow, Mar del Plata, Montreal, Shanghai, Cairo, Goa and Tallinn. The Warsaw Film Festival differs from other festivals in its program, just as Warsaw differs from other cities. When choosing the films, its organizers always think about their audience – the residents of the city, those who work or study in Warsaw, as well as the special visitors who came only for the festival.
