The Ministry of Culture launched the procedure for completing the National System "Living Human Treasures – Bulgaria" for 2021, which goes through two stages – district and national.
The maintenance of the system aims to preserve the important for the Bulgarian nation and its culture knowledge activities and skills of communities, groups and individuals, their transmission to the next generations through non-formal and formal education, as well as to ensure their visibility through public recognition at a national and international level.
The institutions with a right to be nominated are national community centres, municipal, regional and state museums and non-profit legal entities with a subject of activity related to intangible cultural heritage.
The district phase will run in the period April — June 2021 and is organized by the regional administrations. Expert committees will be set up to select the applications received, which include experts from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, representatives of regional museums, local researchers and/or other specialists working in the field of intangible cultural heritage. By 30 June 2021, the Ministry of Culture shall receive the minutes of the work of the regional committees and the complete dossiers of the nominations selected for the national level.
Elements selected at the regional level will be presented simultaneously on the official website of the Ministry of Culture and on the websites of the respective regional administrations.
In July 2021, a national committee will discuss the submitted regional applications and will make a reasoned proposal for the inclusion of new elements in the National Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
